5 things to avoid in Blogging World

Today i’m giving tutorial to beginner blogger, beginner blogger only not pro blogger ok ? To be a success blogger, many “Don’t” we must always keep it in our heart or brain or leg, you can either read it or ignore it, because this is what my mind is flashing today.

I’m going to write 5 “Don’t” in blogging world .

1) Don’t copy content, you can be dead in few days if you keep copying other’s content. Write your own content with your own word, you can refer information but don’t salin copy bulat-bulat.

2) Don’t listen to anyone who critic you, take their comments as tutorial. Don’t give up if they critic you, say you this kenot lar that kenot lar, don’t bother them and continue your blog.

3) Don’t give up ! Keep blogging, don’t update your blog once a few weeks or month, you can loss your reader because they thought you die already. Don’t feel lazy to write, actually writting has many advantage 1, one of them is improve your english.

4) Don’t care if you never earn any bucks from blogging (For those who want to earn money), blogging world is endless one, doesn’t mean a 80years old people can’t blogging, so keep blogging and write good content.

5) Don’t shy or behave, blog is yours 1, blog whatever you want , don bother what people said, blog in your own way, don’t lost your personality ! Be yourself, write it in your own style. Don’t “chap siao” (bother) people like it or not, just blog ok ? They don’t appreciate you, I appreciate you !

5 “Don’t” that i write very common in blogging world right ? No why, this is what i face and what i learn from them ! Some of them critic me before, i don’t care, because i wan blog, and i like blogging since the first day i start ! I don’t care you want read or not, i will keep writting, continue my blogging world !

This is the attitude you should have in blogging world, don’t give up !!You can also write your “Don’t” and share it here with all of us … Cheers !!

Slow network speed

Today is 19th July 2008, Night, about 8.00pm !

The connection is slow like turtle .. my god !! I’m waiting for about 3-5minutes just for a normal site, normally it’s fast to load all the page, but today … don’t know what happen, damn slow … Ghrrhg !!

Don’t know is it streamyx problem or my house got people download, i don’t think got people download drama or movie, this is rarely happen, the connection speed slow like … Turtle lar, just now i said d, Turtle ar (Follow ‘7 Chai’ movie’s script) ! I cant even sign up Msn right now …

I want fast connection speed lar, if not how i done all my thing now ? =.=” I feel tired to wait the page loaded … when Wimax launched their products ?! I’m waiting for the fastest network !! I dowan slow speed !!

Does anyone face the same problem with me right now ??

New Wordpress 2.60 launched

I realized that there is another newer version Wordpress 2.60 is launched 2days ago. I saw the “Wordpress 2.60 is available! Please updated now” in my wordpress cpanel. I not update yet because i’m not dare to update anything, worry that there is an error may cause all my file or articles gone in a minute. So i may do more research about it before i update to Wordpress 2.60.

I read some posts in Lowyat.net, some of the blogger said that newer Wordpress may not support old version plugin, maybe there is some error, maybe it cause your file or post lost, many of “maybe” there, so i’m not going to upgrade anything since i satisfy with my Wordpress 2.51 right now. Don’t think i will make any changes if there is not much changes on the Wordpress 2.60, or the changes doesn’t not help me.

Information below from Wordpress BlogHere are some of the smaller features and improvements in 2.6:

1) Word count! Never guess how many words are in your post anymore.

2) Image captions, so you can add sweet captions like Political Ticker does under your images.

3) Bulk management of plugins.

4) A completely revamped image control to allow for easier inserting, floating, and resizing. It’s now fully integrated with the WYSIWYG.

5) Drag-and-drop reordering of Galleries.

6) Plugin update notification bubble.

7) Customizable default avatars.

12) Ability to move your wp-config file and wp-content directories to a custom location, for “clean” SVN checkouts.

13) Select a range of checkboxes with “shift-click.”

14) You can toggle between the Flash uploader and the classic one.

15) A number of proactive security enhancements, including cookies and database interactions.

16) Stronger better faster versions of TinyMCE, jQuery, and jQuery UI.

17) Version 2.6 fixes approximately 194 bugs.

The conclusion, i’m not going to upgrade untill there is someone upgrade without any doubt or error. Thanks Wordpress for keep updating Wordpress Version to fix bug in Wordpress !

How to get relevant adsense ads

How many times have you seen totally irrelevant ads appearing on your page, for which your readers have no interest. You are losing valuable clicks here because one your visitors might get confused and leave your site, second he might not even come back later. To avoid such disasters you need to ensure that the ads that appear on your website is relevant to the content that is on the site.

The ads are served on your site based upon the following parameters:

1) URL of the site
2) Title text of the site
3) Text of links
4) Text of links that link to your site (appearing on other sites)
5) Content of links that point to external pages
6) Keywords appearing frequently on the site
7) Search Engines queries that lead to the page etc…

The above broad parameters need to be kept in mind while driving Adsense Ad Units to your site. While you might be able to control the text of your articles/post on the blogs but the text of comments made by your visitors is not in your hands and they can be totally in tangent with the content of the post/page. To overcome this very important problem section targeting needs to be used for effective ad serving. This is done by enclosing the relevant content in the following HTML tags;

1) I blog for my interest, i love food, i love travel, i love blogging, i love to blog about my life !!

2) I blog for money like other too, I wan to get rich like Lilian ahyi haha !! Hope i can be like her one day !!

3) I blog to become famous like Lilian ahyi also, i hope i can become famous one day haha !!

4) Why i blog ?? It’s my own thing, noneed anyone chap siao !! Eh sai beh ?? (I can’t be great like Lilian ahyi now, so i cant talk big sound..LOL)

Adsense ads placement

Many of us always think the method of placing Adsense Ads to get the maximum click from our readers, am i true ? But do you know that Google has the right to ban you for placing misleading Adsense Ads ? We are not allow to place Adsense ads on certain location that suspected that you have intention to misleading your reader to click on your ads.

As i know, we are not allow to put Adsense ads under a tittle on the heading part that misleading your readers. Why ? Because Ads under tittle are look like the content of the tittle, and the tittle can’t be in such word like “Today’s Hot News”, “Great Food Today”, “Click Me”, “Earn money here”, you will get banned before you earn your money here!

There is a example below, it’s what i said don’t put Adsense Ads under tittle. You can easily put in Adsense Ads between your post with adsense injection(Google it up), save your work and time.

Don’t ever try to violate Google Adsense’s TOS and don’t ever try to cheat Google’s money, you will regret forever !! Keep your adsense clean, feed your content well and learn how to target adsense content.

6 simple steps to earn from Adsense

Beginning of my words, first question, how much revenue do you generate from Google Adsense? Recently there has been a lot of discussion about people who earn over $10,000 a month just from Adsense. Furthermore, there are rumors of a few individuals who earn over $1 million a year just from using the power of Google advertisements.

So what is Google Adsense and how can you use this program to earn a six-figure income? Few years ago, Google created this program to help websites to monetize their web-traffic. Here’s how it works : Webmasters obtain a special code from Google which then displays targeted ads on their website.

I do make a lot post about my Alexa Rank, but never taught my reader how to create a Alexa Rank Button Widget on their blogs.

So today i’m going to teach you how to create a Alexa Rank Button Widget as what is shown in my sidebar. What is Alexa Rank Button Widget for ? It shows your website/blog rank in Alexa, it’s a guideline or reference that what is your blog’s rank now.

That’s not accurate, why ? Because Alexa only count those visitor who have installed Alexa Toolbar … :” Walao friend, not accurate why u still ask us to install ?” Don’t panic lar .. it’s just a guideline or reference lar, at least you know your blog in good rank ma, right ?

So i teach you step by step how to create it and put it on ur sidebar.

1) Visit Alexa Site.

2) Scroll down and you saw a word named "Widget".

3) Fill your url in the blank. There is few option for Alexa Rank Button, choose the one you like. (Example : Yahoo.com)

4) you got it. (Rank 1 : Yahoo.com)

5) You saw the code ? Copy it and paste in your sidebar widget or anywhere you want.

6) Done !!

Create your Alexa Rank Widget for your blog if you haven’t yet.

Tips for generate traffic

As a webmaster or blogger, you have your website or blog with many advertisement like Google Adsense, Nuffnang, and so on. You have good content, nice template, good articles, but you have no one to click on your ads, you have zero earning, why ? Because you don have visitors !
So i’m giving you a few simple ways to generate traffic to your site. It’s just my 2 cents, it’s one of my method to generate traffic.

1) Twitter - A connection among buddies from different countries, i have made a post about how to get traffic from twitter, very simple way to generate traffic, just by “Follow” new friends, they will follow you too, just post a msg and url about your blog in the text box, Send ! Then wait the traffic come 1 by 1 !

2) Friendster - You have your friendster account right ? Use your bulletin Board ! Use it to tell all your friends about your little blog, let your friends know your have a blog, they are your friends, i think they are interest to visit your blog too ! Addition, ask your friends help you post bulletin about your blog too, this can increase your blog visibility too ! If they found your blog useful, they will keep visit daily or weekly. If you don’t have Friendster account, you can do it with your Facebook or any others too.

3) MyBlogLog - This is what i learn from Jozzua about how he get traffic from MyBlogLog. It’s a funny tips/method, you can try it out too !

Google retire referral program

Google is retiring one of their feature, Adsense Referrals !! It’s a big normal news, right ? For me only la, because i don’t use Adsense Referrals feature. Because i can’t get the ads i want with Adsense Referrals, so i already took out last few weeks ago. But i know some bloggers are using it and love it too, no cure because Google are decided to retire it. Of course there is not only Adsense Referrals can bring you income, you still have Adsense Content and Adsense Search.

So, Google will retire Adsense Referrals during the last week of August. If you are using Adsense Referrals program right now, don’t forget to take it out asap before last week of August. Below is the steps that Google encourage you to do :

Remove the referral code from your site(s) Please take a moment to remove all referral code from your sites before the last week of August, so you can continue to effectively monetize your ad space.
Run and save all referrals reports on your desktop: Create and save all reports related to the referrals program on your desktop, so you continue to have access to your valuable campaign information.

For those who love Adsense Referrals, don’t sad, because Google have another program called “Google Affiliate Network”. It’s cool also right ? What is Google Affiliate Network ? It’s almost the same with other Affiliate that you saw around the internet world. You refferal someone or stranger to advertise or buy Google adwords or their client’s products, then Google will pay you a commission. For more details, come HERE.

How to get traffic from Twitter

We, as a blogger, always think of many ways to gain traffic to our site, but what method is the best way to gain traffic ? We need to Hack find out ourselves, try several methods just to wan traffics.

So refer to my previous post about what is Twitter, roughly you know what is Twitter right ? It’s another communication method among all friends / stranger in different countries, just like Friendster, Facebook.

But Twitter is more easier to manage, how ? Just sign up, and keep “Follow” people and built a community, once you write an msg in the msg box and send, it will appear for every “Follower” (The person you follow and he/she follow you too, It’s just like “Request” and “Accept”). Very simple tools, you just need to click “Follow” button under the user photo, that’s it. You can add your blog post url on the msg box, if your “Follower” interest about what you post, they will click and read your blog.

That’s funny why must use “Follow” ? Haha, “Follow” this word is refreshing my memory about ‘Just Follow Law’, it’s a Singaporean Movie, very funny one. What is Twitter ? Heard of Twitter before ? I heard this Twitter for few days already but never touch it before. I read some posts on other blogger’s post about Twitter, I found that’s funny so i joined it just now. So what is Twitter that defined in Twitter site ?

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and
stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple
question: What are you doing?

Normally what Twtter for ? As what i think before i joined, Twitter is something like Friendster, Facebook and so on. It’s all about connection and communication, make new friends, chit chatting, sharing and many other things. Twitter is more easier to use than Friendster or Facebook. Every Twitter member can easily chat in text box (You join then you will know what i’m saying) [NOT TO PROMOTE,JUST SHARING] .

All of this question, we have only 1 answer … Google !! Google can help you done this all things, but how fast you can get indexed by Google ? Of course not just sit there and wait Google to crawl your site. You must put some effort to work it out ! It’s simple don’t worry.

1) Do linking on new post to other’s post that has been indexed by Google.
2) Post new topic in Forum, Web Directory, Stumbupon, Digg, Friendster, Facebook and so on.
3) Linked to the site that own relevant topics with yours.
4) Install Google Analytics.
5) Create and submit sitemap to Google Webmaster Central. Recommended Google XML Sitemap.
6) That’s it ? Yes !!

Check blog readability

Did you check your blog readability before ? Is your blog easy to understand ? Too wordy and full of “Poffesional” english ? There is pointless if your reader cant understand what you are talking about, they will think you are toking kok, LOL !

Try write your post in clean and simple way to express what you going to tell your reader, “Poffesional” english can make your reader run away k? Your teacher got teach you before, the more you write, the more mistakes you have ? So hor, simple words and simples sentences are recommeded !

There are few tools to check your blog Readability.
1) Criticsrant
2) Juicystudio
3) Ask your lecturer or your reader, see whether they understand what you are talking about or not !

For Criticsrant, there is a level from elementary school to genius, so check out which level are you in, maybe only kindergarden level ? lol ..don’t sad, kindergarden doesn’t mean your blog very low level, sometimes kindergarden english is easier to understand compare to genius level.

For Juicystudio, there is a box with all information listed down for you. They rank you with number, take your number and check which category are you in.

Don’t too care about the result too, because it’s just a estimation, it’s better you ask your reader whether they understand your “Pofessional” or “rojak” english bo ? Communicate with your reader now and get the answers ! ^^

Permalinks improves SEO

This few days i visited a lot of blog, they were still using the default permalinks (with page no.), it’s difficult for Google to grab your keyword from your post tittle. It doesn’t look pro right ? If your blog post url with full post title, it will look nicer and better keywords, it help Google to grab your keyword easily ! By using better permalink, it can improve the usability, aesthetics and forward-compatibility of your links. This is what your wordpress cpanel told you in permalinks page.

* Go your wordpress cpanel, click on “Settings”, then choose “Permalinks” as the red box in the picture.

* Before you edit your setting in permalinks, your permalinks is in default status. So now you can choose the permalinks you like. You can also choose the Custom Structure to create a new permalinks by yourself. After choose, click “Save changes” at the bottom.

* Ok, done ! This is an example of the blog post url, it’s look nicer than a blog post url with numbering right ? It’s help you on your Search Engine Optimisation(SEO) too.

After you click Save Changes, if it’s appear “You need to update your .htaccess file” at the top, ok dont panic, very simple steps (Actually i’m in trouble when i saw this when i’m new. LOL). First, go to your FTP, find a file named .htaccess , right click it, choose properties, and change it to 777(Click on all the square). Remember this .htaccess file must be inside your blog folder.

So, everything done now ! Check your blog post url now. I think all people like to see other blog post url compare to blog post url with page no, rite ? ^^ Lastly, i hope this tutorial can help you !!

Many of Blogger don’t know about how to choose content for their Blog in the beginning. Before you start your blog, you must ask yourself, what is your purpose of the blog and a few question before you start Blogging ?

i) Blogging about your own life ?
ii) Blogging to earn advertising revenue ?
ii) Who do you want your reader to be ?
iv) What you want to blog about ?

After you get your answer from option above..choose your own content..there is few type of Blog too :

1) Personal Blog
Personal Blog can be described as a blog that Author write about their own life. Author write about what is happened on them everyday, what they eat, where they go, revealing their own feeling, etc. With personal blog, I understand that it is not easy to attract reader to read your personal life and make them stay longer or repeat their visit. So you must write something interesting about your life and ask reader for comment in your post. Example : Your enemy beat you with no reason, someone cheat your money, so you plan to sue them, Now, you ask reader to give you their suggestion. Of course, you must express your feeling deep in your heart.

2) Niche Blog
Niche Blog is a Blog that Author write about their interesting hobby. There are a lot of this kind of blog out there, they are blogging about Travelling guide, food, computer, financial, business, online working, toys, cooking, etc. Niche Blog usually focus on specified topics or area. Let’s say you are working as a cook, so you can write about how to cook or food recipe. Advantage of Niche Blog is to share your experience with other, this kind of blog you can get a lot of visitor that have same hobby with you. Other than this, make friend with reader and sharing experience each other. Then you might get a lot of reader through search engine. (SEO) ^^

3) Composite Blog
Composite Blog is another type of blog that Author write about their life and their opinion or tips. Example : Author write about his travel to Mountain Kota Kinabalu, so he will write about how he is going to climb the mountain, what is the steps or tips before climbing anything else. Author is writting his own life everyday, suddenly he write about how to make money blogging and so on. There is nothing wrong with this kind of blog, some reader might not interest to know about your own life but they will read on your climbing tips or money making through blogging. The increase of site traffic can brought about by various means like listing of the website/blog in different directories, indices and other high traffic portals from where interested visitors will come to the website. Examples of such indices are Slashdot, Indianpad, Digg It, Delicious etc. It is also true that increasing of traffic for a start-up website is rather difficult, but as the traffic increases the rate of increase in traffic is exponential. The best publicity for any website is word of mouth publicity as it is more permanent and the satisfied users themselves spread the word. We all are creating a website or a blog and just waiting our website and blog to become famous ? Same as me..everyone are going through this process as well..so..i have do a research and find out there are some ways to get traffic to your website or blog in my point of view..

Here are 7 things you can do to get more traffic at your site and increase the chances you’ll get online donors - or just get the word out.. try it out before you said it’s doens’t work..it’s better than doing nothing and just waiting people to visit..^^

1. Starting, create your blog/website with your own content, make sure your site is worth visiting(visit your site/blog first time and think to visit again next time), informative, easy to find, easy to use, up-to-date, appropriate for the people you want to visit, of course you may need to make your content clear and interesting.

2. Ask yourself before creating your site/blog, what content do you want to concentrate on ? who is your target? Where is the location of the target? How they normally search for any information that they want (internet, shop?)? How your site benefit them?….etc.

3. Create a “meta tag” in your blog or website. Put relevant keywords in your “meta tag” so that search engines spiders can crawl your site properly.

4. List your Web address (and e-mail) on all your materials - letterhead, brochures, newsletter, forms, ads, videos, etc. And repeat it often in radio and TV interviews, at speeches, etc.

It’s laughingly simple, yet the effect can be immediate. All you need is to get some colorful digital photographs, either from your own stock or from a royalty-free web site. Then using a graphics program, such, as Real Draw PRO or Photoshop, create a strip of four rectangular photographs with a space in between each. The overall size of the strip should be 728 pixels wide by about 108 pixels deep.

The content of the pictures should be relevant to the content of your web site. In order not to violate Google’s Terms Of Service, you should avoid pictures that are animated, advertisements or induce the visitor to click on the AdSense ads. If you are in any doubt, check with Google’s Terms Of Service. The background color should exactly match the color of your AdSense pages. It helps if you can place a narrow blue border around the individual photo (but not around the entire strip).

This arrangement is ideal for a page containing an article and the best position within the page for the picture strip is at the top of the page, immediately below the page headline, but above the start of the body text. Once you have done this, go to your Google AdSense advert codes and select the one for leaderboard, which is 728 pixels wide by 90 pixels deep. If the 728 pixel width sounds vaguely familiar, it’s the exact size of the width of your picture strip.

Make sure you delete Google’s border code before pasting your leaderboard code under the picture strip, save the page and load it to your server and start enjoying up to three times the clicks on that style of ad. If you already have the maximum number of three AdSense blocks on the pages, where you insert this picture strip/leaderboard combo, do be sure to delete one of the existing ad groups, so you don’t violate Google’s Terms Of Service, which only allow three ad blocks per page.
